OC-Based Cosmetic Surgery Center and Medspa Helps Patients Restore Balance with Bioidentical Hormones

In response to the current COVID-19 pandemic, CosmetiCare, an award-winning cosmetic plastic surgery center and medspa, is now providing bioidentical hormone therapy to help people who are experiencing a hormonal imbalance as a result of the current COVID-19 pandemic, age or other factors. Leading the launch of its new bioidentical hormone therapy services, CosmetiCare is pleased to welcome Jennifer Rosenfeld, NP, a certified nurse practitioner and bioidentical hormone therapy provider, with five years of industry knowledge and specialized expertise in anti-aging and wellness programs, thread lifts and injectables.

“CosmetiCare is known nationally for making women and men look beautiful on the outside, so we’re thrilled to be able to provide an opportunity for our patients to not only look their best, but also feel their best,” said Jennifer Rosenfeld, nurse practitioner at CosmetiCare. “Hormones control most of your basic bodily functions including appetite, immune function, mood and libido – so, when they are out of balance, it can have a big impact on overall health and well-being. Bioidentical hormones are identical chemically to those our bodies produce naturally and are made from plant estrogens. They can be used to treat individuals who have experienced drops in their hormone levels from certain life conditions like stress, pregnancy or menopause.”

While bioidentical hormones can come in various forms, CosmetiCare uses subcutaneous pellets to deliver a steady, consistent flow of hormones to patients. The treatment is tailored to each patients’ individual needs using a complex algorithm, and the treatment will deliver a consistent flow of hormones over three to five months, with results peaking at around week seven, to help patients improve their emotional, physical and psychological well-being.

CosmetiCare’s new bioidentical hormone therapy services also help address many health concerns, such as hormone deficiency, low testosterone, changes in energy levels, osteoporosis, cardiovascular disease and cognitive decline.  Additionally, there are a wide variety of benefits, including:

Local Cosmetic Surgery Center and Medspa Brings COVID-19 Antibody Testing to Orange County

To help better serve its community during the current COVID-19 pandemic, CosmetiCare, an award-winning cosmetic plastic surgery center and medspa, is now offering COVID-19 antibody testing at its Newport Beach location. The test is administered in-office via blood sample from a simple finger prick, with patients receiving results within 10-minutes. The service is available for $149 by appointment only to ensure social distancing by eliminating long lines and crowded waiting rooms.

“I saw an opportunity to assist our local Orange County community by providing antibody tests,” said Dr. Michael Niccole, founder of CosmetiCare. “Beyond the simple power of knowing their status, patients with the correct COVID-19 antibodies can donate their blood and plasma to help those who are battling for their lives trying to beat the virus. This may not only help save lives, but also help our community gather more data to enable a return to a new normal.”

Patients who purchase a medspa service, which can be redeemed when CosmetiCare re-opens, or a skincare product for local, curbside pickup will receive a $50 discount. Those who test positive for COVID-19 antibodies and donate blood or plasma at a local donation center, will receive a $100 CosmetiCare gift card with proof of donation.

In addition to its antibody testing service, CosmetiCare also has partnered with OC-based Goldsheep Clothing in its fight against COVID-19, to create protective face masks. The masks are also being offered as a free gift with all CosmetiCare skincare product purchases of $100 or more.

Doing a breast lift, or any other body contouring surgery, on a patient who has lost a tremendous amount of weight is like watching a caterpillar cocoon blossom into a beautiful butterfly. At least that’s how Burr von Maur, MD, FACS, of CosmetiCare Plastic Surgery and Medspa in Corona Del Mar, Calif, describes it.

Maur completes postbariatric body contouring surgery several times a week at CosmetiCare. In his 25 years of experience, Maur has found that patients who undergo a body contouring procedure after weight loss gain a new mind-set. These patients see an increase in confidence that facilitates daily exercise and social engagement, including their participation in sports activities and hitting the beach for a swim. Seeing their confidence levels elevate is why he enjoys doing it.

“One of the main reasons I like to do body contouring on patients after their experience with weight loss is because these are some of the happiest patients! It is such a relief for them because they have been thinking about getting some work done for a very long time. When they finally do, it’s transformative,” he says.

But there is plenty to consider before moving forward, and these procedures are generally done in stages to receive the best results. Maur starts his consultation process by finding out what bothers any given patient the most. Some patients want to get rid of the hanging skin on their tummy first, while others opt for an entire lower-body lift (tummy tuck, thigh, and buttock lift) all at once. A breast lift procedure can be done at the same time, but it will add more time to surgery (unless you have a second team to do the work).

Losing a lot of weight quickly may also result in large amounts of excess skin on the back and under the bra line. So the second stage of the body contouring process is an upper body lift, which can also be combined with the breast lift in one procedure.

“If the breast bothers a patient the most, then that’s what we do first,” he says. The volume of breast skin on a patient is sometimes severely stretched due to the weight loss. For those cases, Maur uses the GalaFLEX Surgical Scaffold to support the breast tissue during an implant.

Whether to improve everything at once, or take each procedure step-by-step, will mainly depend on the patient’s general health, motivation, and their mobility. Patients who have continued obesity, high body mass index, diabetes, uncontrolled high blood pressure, or significant heart disease are not good candidates for surgery.

“But if a patient is basically healthy and does not have any of those issues, then most of them do pretty well,” Maur says.

Maur requires every patient to undergo a complete screening (including a stress test) from their cardiologist and internist to make sure they are in satisfactory condition for surgery.

Maur is inspired by the late Ted Lockwood, MD. When the pioneering aesthetic plastic surgeon from Kansas City began presenting his early concept of the lower body lift to doctors across the country many years ago, Maur couldn’t wait to start training on the new method. Not many practitioners were getting involved back then, he says. But today, it’s becoming more and more popular among plastic surgeons, which Maur says is because it’s a rewarding procedure to do.

Burr von Maur, MD, FACS

“I’m really fortunate to have become involved with this early on because I’ve grown with it. I have a strong-wide background—having done it for 25 years,” he says. “I know what my limitations are, and I know what realistic expectations can be for myself and the patient. That’s important.”

There is an educational curve that is required to treat a patient who has experienced significant weight loss. For plastic surgeons who are interested in expanding their services to specialize in body contouring after weight loss, he recommends lectures and seminars that focus on the various techniques, particularly since so much of it continues to evolve. Then you should select the one procedure with which you feel the most comfortable.

To promote this specialized procedure to patients, Maur suggests external and internal marketing campaigns, as well as having staff members talk with patients about it.  He says it’s also helpful to liaise with bariatric surgeons in your area. That’s a good way to not only obtain new patients but to also have a better understanding of all the nuances that are tied to the disease of obesity, he says.

“I’ve learned a lot about obesity throughout my experience over the years, and it’s more than just a psychological inability to control your eating,” he notes. “It’s often difficult to control without surgical intervention. And there is a physiological cause of obesity that is related to social, hormonal, psychological imbalance.”

As obesity rates continue to rise in the United States, Maur predicts that as people become more educated about body contouring treatments after weight loss, the trend will continue to grow.

The Real Housewives of Orange County mom’s pre-reunion treatment looked pretty scary, so we got an expert to give us all the details.

Shannon Beador Treatment Plastic Surgery

Apparently, if you want to look like a million bucks you have to spend it — or at least $2,500. Shannon Storms Beador has been an open book with fans on how she prepared for The Real Housewives of Orange County reunion taping this year, and one of those steps was a CO2 Laser Facial at Cosmeticare.

Two weeks after her procedure, Shannon shared some of the progress pictures of what her skin looked like immediately following the facial each day for the first week, as well as a picture at the two week mark. Shannon’s face was completely red and raw that first week, but 14 days later, it looked incredible! We had to learn more about this facial that looks so extreme at first, but made such a big difference after healing. chatted with aesthetic registered nurse Tannaz Razavi from CosmetiCare, (who also performed Shannon’s O-Shot) for the scoop on the CO2 Laser Facial. Read on to discover how it works and who is the wrong candidate for this procedure.

What is the CO2 laser facial?

Tannaz Razavi: CO2RE Laser Fractional Skin Resurfacing is an incredible treatment for select skin types that could benefit from correction of textural and pigmentation irregularities. The primary focus area of fractional resurfacing treatments at CosmetiCare is a full-face or partial face treatment, and this procedure can also be performed on neck, chest, or hands.

How does it work?

The laser causes micro injuries in the skin to create new tissue and collagen. Superficial, medium, or deep penetration may be performed to improve damaged skin, depending on the individual.

How is it different than other types of facials?

The CO2RE is more than a facial, it’s a laser skin resurfacing. With the typical facial or facial peels, you might experience light peeling; with the CO2RE you are having dermal skin resurfacing stimulated by a laser that’s stimulating collagen, resulting in tighter, brighter, and more beautiful skin.

How much does it cost?

The average treatment is $2,000 for the full face. The treatment Shannon received included PRP (Plasma Rich Platelets), which aid in faster recovery. This was important with her schedule and to get her reunion ready! With the PRP add-on, the average treatment cost is $2,500.

How often do you need to get it?

That all depends on the patient’s skin. If they have textural issues, it may take more than one treatment. Typically, once or twice a year is enough to keep collagen stimulated and skin tight and looking its best.

What are the risks for this type of facial?

In certain skin types, there is a risk of developing a temporary or permanent color change in the skin. Taking birth control pills, pregnancy, or a family history of brownish discoloration on the face may increase the possibility of developing abnormal pigmentation, which is why this treatment is recommended for select patients. Before having the treatments, it’s important for a patient to have a consultation with an experienced and licensed provider and disclose any history of keloids, unusual scarring tendencies, extensive X-rays or radiation to the face, or recurring cold sores (because this treatment can exacerbate complications).

How long is the recovery for it?

A reaction that feels and looks like a sunburn occurs following the treatment. The treatment usually involves redness and swelling, followed by aggressive peeling that ends within seven to 10 days. Deeper resurfacing includes scabbing with additional days of redness and swelling. It is important to avoid overexposure to the sun and exercise immediately after a treatment, since the new skin is fragile and more susceptible to injury and infection.

Who is a good or bad candidate?

A good candidate is any individual with a lighter skin tone that has fine lines, wrinkles, and/or sun damaged skin. In Orange County, where our practice is located, many of our patients spend a great amount of time outdoors, laying out by the beach and in the sun. This is a great treatment for many of those patients! The patients that I would not complete this treatment on are those with autoimmune disorders or hyperpigmentation conditions like melasma or darker skin tones. For these patients, we have another option that’s just as aggressive, but with less risk of adverse reactions.

Anything to add on the subject?

For those who are experiencing skin laxity, I would recommend adding microneedling with radio frequency, like Shannon had prior to the CO2RE treatment and Kelly had before the reunion. Specifically, the Morpheus8 treatment, as it provides excellent skin tightening results that complement our CO2RE laser facial.

Watch and Learn Why Christy Gibel Came in for a Post-Gastric Sleeve Surgery Consultation

Christy Gibel, star of Little Women: LA recently received gastric sleeve surgery with our partners, Smart Dimensions Weight Loss. Christy was struggling to meet her desired weight when she discovered that she was a candidate for this procedure. Following her gastric sleeve surgery, Christy decided to pay a visit to Dr. Niccole at CosmetiCare for a skin removal surgery consultation. Check out the clip from Little Women: LA below and learn more about how CosmetiCare plans to help Christy meet her aesthetic goals.

Christy Gibel Little Women: LA CosmetiCare Consultation

What is Gastric Sleeve Surgery?

Gastric sleeve surgery, or sleeve gastrectomy, is a weight-loss procedure in which a portion of the stomach is removed in order to reduce the amount of food required for patients to “feel full”. Our partners at Smart Dimensions Weight Loss offer sleeve gastrectomy as a solution for patients struggling to lose weight due to overeating. This procedure is considered to be less invasive and safer than other bariatric surgeries. It’s usually recommended for patients with a BMI of 35 or higher and they can typically expect to “lose 50 to 80 pounds in a 12-month period“ following the surgery.

Little Women: LA Gastric Sleeve Surgery

Why Did Christy Come to CosmetiCare for a Skin Removal Surgery Consultation?

Individuals commonly experience loose, excess skin that remains after any type of weight-loss, surgical or non-surgical. More often than not, the only way to remove this extra skin is through surgical procedures. This problem is sometimes exacerbated when patients lose a large amount of weight over a relatively small period of time. Breast lifts, tummy tucks, and other types of skin removal surgeries help alleviate this issue by taking away excess tissue and tightening the remaining skin.

After recently undergoing gastric sleeve surgery, Christy was curious about whether or not she was a candidate for a skin removal procedure. She was concerned about having loose and sagging skin after losing weight. Accompanied by her daughter, Autumn, Christy met with board-certified plastic surgeon, Dr. Michael Niccole at CosmetiCare to discuss her options. Their consultation was featured on Episode 15 of Season 8 of Little Women: LA. Check it out below!

Breast Implant Removal & Exchange – Watch And Learn!

Breast augmentation is one of the most popular cosmetic surgeries, ranging from silicone implants to saline implants to fat transfer to the breasts. Women have a variety of reasons as to why they choose to receive breast implants, with the most common being dissatisfaction with their breast size. So why do some women want to remove breast implants? Learn more about breast implant removal and implant exchange and see the procedure performed by a top board-certified Orange County plastic surgeon and body contouring specialist!

Breast Implant Removal & Exchange

Why remove breast implants?

There can be numerous reasons as to why a patient may want or need to remove their breast implants. To help make things easier, we made a list of them below:

Breast Implant Hardening

Some women may develop capsular contracture, most notably a hardened scar tissue around one or both of the implants. Symptoms may include tightness, tenderness and abnormal changes to the breast. Hardening can occur more than once on the same breast.

Saline Breast Implant Rupture

A saline rupture will likely occur because of a tear or hole in the implant. Once this happens, the implant will usually slowly deflate in size and shape. This can occur over a period of time or all at once. The rupture may not be noticeable until all of the saline leaks out and you begin to notice a dramatic difference compared to your other breast.

Silicone Breast Implant Rupture

Silicone implant ruptures can go unnoticed because of the thickness of the silicone gel. If a silicone implant does rupture, the gel will more than likely stay inside the implant or surrounding scar tissue. The majority of women with silicone implants do not experience symptoms. However, if they do, symptoms may include decreased breast size, uneven appearance of the breasts, tenderness, changes in sensation, etc.

Desire to Increase or Decrease Size

Aesthetic trends and personal body goals tend to shift over time. When implants were first popularized there was a tendency for patients to desire a much larger bosom. More recently, smaller breasts have become “fashionable”. Regardless of outside forces, many women find themselves desiring a change in breast size several years after receiving their initial implants. Some find that their first implants didn’t amplify their breasts enough, while others hope to find a subtler and slightly smaller fit.

Newer procedures, such as fat transfers or fat grafting, are also giving patients an alternative to implants altogether. These treatments enable patients to maintain some volume while still removing their original implants. While the overall results of fat transfers aren’t as pronounced as traditional breast augmentations, they often provide a more natural look and feel.

It Simply May Be Time

Nothing lasts forever. No matter the type or size of your implants, they eventually need to be replaced. It’s generally a good idea to remove and replace implants after 10-20 years, depending on the manufacturer’s recommendation. Some women end up never needing replacements, while the majority get their breasts redone after a decade or so. According to the FDA, roughly 20% of women find they need replacements around the 8-10 year mark, usually due to unforeseen complications or aesthetic concerns.

Allergan Breast Implant Recall

On July 24, 2019, Allergan announced a recall of Biocell textured breast implants and tissue expanders at the behest of the FDA. Allergan textured implants were recalled after anaplastic large-cell lymphoma (ALCL) was linked to textured breast implants, although the risk of developing ALCL was shown to be relatively low. As of this August, 573 cases of BIA-ALCL (Breast implant-associated ALCL) have been reported, with 481 of those cases involving Allergan’s Biocell textured implants.

The FDA has stated that patients who are not experiencing symptoms do not need to have their implants removed, even if they have the Allergan implants in question. Despite the number of cases at present and the 33 reported deaths from BIA-ALCL, the risk of contracting this illness is statistically very low. Still, many women are finding peace of mind by deciding to remove their implants (textured or not) regardless of their risk for illness or complications. Each woman’s individual situation is unique and that’s why it’s important to know your options and be informed to make the best decision for yourself.

What does breast implant removal involve?

When considering breast implant removal, it is very important to know that the procedure should be performed by a board-certified plastic surgeon who is skilled and trained in cosmetic breast surgery. During the removal process, the implants can be removed altogether, replaced with new implants, or replaced by fat transfer. They’re frequently removed by the same incisions used for the initial procedure to avoid any additional scarring.  In some cases, patients may require a breast lift during the procedure.

Watch: Removal of textured breast implants

In this video, board-certified plastic surgeon and body contouring specialist, Dr. Burr von Maur, provides a detailed look at a breast implant removal and replacement procedure. The patient receiving this surgery wanted new, larger implants. Prior to the surgery, Dr. Burr von Maur consulted with this patient at CosmetiCare’s Newport Beach offices and ensured that she understood all of her options for achieving her unique aesthetic goals. With over 40 years of experience, Dr. Burr von Maur is a highly sought after plastic surgery expert that places patient safety as the utmost priority.

Shannon Storms Beador has lost 40 pounds and gained a whole lot of fun! That’s according to Shannon in her testimonial from the first episode of the new season of The Real Housewives of Orange County.  The episode opens with Shannon showing her daughters how she is working on her fitness and closes with self-care treatments at CosmetiCare Plastic Surgery Center and MedSpa in Newport Beach, California.  “I’m proud of myself,” Shannon says as she introduces the new improved version of herself to viewers.  What exactly did Shannon have done to complete her fabulous new look and attitude? Read on for all the juicy details!

Shannon Beador Real Housewives of Orange County

Shannon came to CosmetiCare seeking a refreshing solution after working hard to lose weight the natural way. She made all the right changes to get back on track by eating healthy and exercising. Then, when she was ready, she turned to the experts at CosmetiCare to complete her transformation.  She consulted with Dr. Brian Reagan, board certified plastic surgeon and boyfriend at the time to Miss Kelly Dodd, also seen in the first OC Housewives episode.

The Real Housewives of Orange County

In discussing her goals, a few different options were considered for Shannon.  She is a busy mom of three, who recently launched her own food line, so her lifestyle had to be taken into consideration.  It was decided that FaceTite and Morpheus8 along with dermabrasion would give Shannon the results she was looking for.

What exactly do these procedures do? Here’s the breakdown:

FaceTite by InMode (pronounced face tight) is a minimally-invasive facial contouring and refinement procedure that utilizes RFAL technology to mold and tighten skin with a wand. The temperatures that are used cause collagen to contract, producing the desired skin tightening results without the downtime of a traditional facelift. The procedure is typically performed under local anesthesia in just 45 minutes. Only one treatment is needed and results are immediate and continue to improve up to 6 to 12 months afterwards.

Morpheus8 is another procedure by InMode that fractionally remodels and contours the face and body.  Penetrating deep into the skin, this morphs the aging face or body into a more desired smooth and sleek appearance, for all skin tones.  It’s a cutting-edge fractional skin treatment, which stimulates collagen production of the underlying layers of skin.  Shannon was one of the first patients to receive this treatment at CosmetiCare!

Lastly, Dr. Reagan finished Shannon’s treatment with dermabrasion to target lines around the mouth. Dermabrasion is a procedure that removes and levels the upper layer of skin.  When the treated area heals, it allows new skin to grow in its place.

The overall procedure that was performed for Shannon by Dr. Reagan was completely customized for her needs to help achieve her goals.  As she explains in this first episode of The Real Housewives of Orange County, her procedures were similar to a facelift but required very little downtime – an important advantage for this busy working mom!  In the episode, Dr. Reagan can be seen reviewing Shannon’s before and after photos with her and pointing out the tightening of her lower face and neck.

Shannon Beador before and after

Kelly Dodd On FaceTite and Morpheus8

Kelly Dodd also had FaceTite along with Morpheus8 at CosmetiCare.  She opted for the procedures after noticing saggy skin and jowling as a result of aging.  She was frustrated with her jawline as she felt it wasn’t very defined but didn’t want to commit to a full facelift.  “As a working mom who is always on camera, I need to keep things right and tight without the downtime that comes with invasive procedures,” says Kelly.

Real Housewives, Real Results

So how do the RHOC ladies feel about their results? According to Kelly: “It was the perfect solution for me to tighten everything up without going under the knife. Not only did I see an improvement with the skin tightening, but the texture improved as well.”  Shannon said: “I’m a single lady right now. I want to look my best. So a few tweaks here and there, just another little check on the new Shannon transformation.”

Want to learn more about the “tweaks” that Shannon and Kelly had done and whether these options are right for you?  Give us a call or visit our website to contact us online.  We offer complimentary consultations with our plastic surgery specialists in Orange County!

Shannon Beador Transformation

Source: ET Online

Which treatments did Shannon Beador have?

V-Beam Laser Treatment: Also known as Shannon’s final beauty secret, the V-Beam laser treatment! She had her V-Beam laser treatment performed with laser nurse, Tannaz Razavi.  The V-Beam laser is something Shannon swears by for her face and body to target broken capillaries and spider veins. Since as Shannon puts it “this is just another sign that I’m flipping old” but with help of the laser treatment, the appearance of spider veins is eliminated. It also helps to treat any redness, blotchiness, rosacea, birthmarks, or other undesired variations in pigmentation. The amount of sessions varies from patient to patient depending on the size and number of spider veins. Results from the V-Beam are seen instantly!  It’s a quick and easy treatment performed in the CosmetiCare MedSpa in Newport Beach.

Dermplaning : One of Shannon’s favorite go to treatments, Dermaplaning, helps to remove facial hair and dead skin as mentioned on ET. Shannon had dermaplaning done by CosmetiCare’s aesthetician, Jessica Rabinowitz. As mentioned before, Dermaplaning is a great treatment for removing peach fuzz from the face. Jessica uses a safe dermaplaning blade to help remove any hidden hair to show a much softer and smoother skin. Fans of The Real Housewives of Orange County may remember a scene from a past season in which Kelly Dodd called out Shannon for having noticeable hair on her chin (ouch!!). Shannon took the hint and came straight to CosmetiCare for a close shave.(Thanks Kelly Dodd!) She now books regular appointments for the treatment! Dermaplaning benefits include: helping skincare products absorb better into the skin, allowing makeup to go on more smoothly, removes facial hair that traps dirt and oils, reduces noticeable fine lines, and diminishes the appearance of acne scars. Dermaplaning is also the perfect prep for a HydraFacial!

Skincare products and Hydrafacial

Skincare Products: Speaking of skincare products, Shannon is a huge fan of CosmetiCare’s new skincare line. She loves trying their different products like Spot-Light (to promote even skin tone and skin health) and Restore (to restore moisture and healthier skin). She particularly likes the products that offer anti-aging benefits such as Ageless Wonder and Triple Threat! Both products help to diminish fine lines and visibly reduce wrinkles.  All skincare products are recommended to be used every week for quick results. Skincare products can be purchased at the CosmetiCare MedSpa in Newport Beach.

HydraFacial Treatment: After her dermaplaning session, aesthetician Jessica starts a HydraFacial treatment. The HydraFacial is what gives Shannon her on-camera glow when filming her testimonials for The Real Housewives of Orange County.  After an exfoliation, the HydraFacial infuses Hyaluronic Acid and Antioxidants to plump the skin and then uses red light therapy to help stimulate collagen. The benefits of this treatment help to remove blackheads, dead skin, and infuse solutions to help hydrate, nourish, and exfoliate the skin. As Shannon puts it, ” you’re just sucking some dead skin off me.”  Shannon even adds an extra booster to customize the treatment according to her skin condition. HydraFacial helps your skin glow and feel refreshed after. The treatment alone is a quick session and shows instant results!
