Profile of Woman's Face

What is rhinoplasty?

During rhinoplasty, your surgeon will address your nasal tip, bridge, and nostrils, bringing these areas into balance while ensuring the nose is well-suited to your face. While most nose surgeries are purely cosmetic, your surgeon can combine your treatment with functional rhinoplasty to correct structural problems that might be interfering with proper breathing or sleeping. Rhinoplasty in Newport Beach can address the following nasal imperfections:

  • An overly long nose
  • A crooked nose
  • An overly prominent or large nose
  • A drooping or bulbous tip
  • Asymmetry
  • Flared or overly wide nostrils
  • Bumps or depressions in the nose

How is rhinoplasty performed?

Rhinoplasty is performed under general anesthesia and can take several hours to complete. Your surgeon will tailor their approach to your unique anatomy and goals. There are two possible techniques used during surgery: open rhinoplasty and closed rhinoplasty.

Open rhinoplasty

With open rhinoplasty, your surgeon will create a tiny incision at the base of the nose across the columella. This affords the surgeon more precise access to the inner nasal structures, enhancing visibility and control.

Closed rhinoplasty

With closed rhinoplasty, incisions are created inside the nose; there is no external scarring to worry about. Both techniques have certain advantages and our team will select the best option for you after a detailed consultation process.

Types of rhinoplasty

Primary rhinoplasty

Primary rhinoplasty involves reshaping and refining the nose according to the patient’s wishes. Nose surgery can reduce a dorsal hump, decrease the nostril size, or correct issues related to the nasal tip.

Revision rhinoplasty

For patients who are dissatisfied with the outcome of their primary rhinoplasty, our surgeons can perform a revision procedure to accomplish the original cosmetic objectives. However, it’s important that patients wait at least 12 months before undergoing a revision, since residual swelling may persist for up to one year.

Septoplasty

Septoplasty can correct a deviated septum that makes it difficult to breathe properly. The surgery optimizes airflow, improving nasal function, sinus problems, and sleep disorders.

Ethnic rhinoplasty

Ethnic rhinoplasty can be performed for non-Caucasian patients who wish to correct nasal imperfections without sacrificing distinctive ethnic characteristics or identity.

Who is an ideal candidate for rhinoplasty?

Patients who are unhappy with the size, shape, or projection of their nose will make excellent candidates for rhinoplasty, provided that they are healthy non-smokers who have realistic expectations for their results. During your private consultation, we will assess your skin quality, nasal structure, and medical history. Additionally, patients will be able to see their potential outcomes through the use of our advanced imaging technology. Teens can undergo the surgery, as long as their noses have finished growing. On the upper end, no one is too old to undergo rhinoplasty, as long as they are medically cleared for surgery.

What can I expect after rhinoplasty?

Immediately after surgery, your nose will be bandaged and a splint may be placed for up to 7 days to keep the new nasal shape intact. You will need a friend, family member, or adult helper to drive you home and assist you for the first 24 hours of your healing process. Swelling, bruising, and soreness will be at their worst for the first few days after surgery. However, these symptoms will slowly abate over the coming weeks and months, revealing your newly sculpted and refined nose.

Your surgeon will provide you with a detailed aftercare plan and prescription painkillers to ensure you are comfortable and at ease. Most patients can switch to over-the-counter painkillers after 3-4 days. Remember that residual swelling can last up to 12 months, so don’t be too quick to judge your final results. Our team will be on hand to guide and support you throughout your rhinoplasty journey and will see you for regular follow-up sessions.

Rhinoplasty FAQ

How much does rhinoplasty cost?

Can I wear glasses after rhinoplasty?

Are there alternatives to rhinoplasty?

Will insurance cover rhinoplasty?

How long will my rhinoplasty results last?

How much does rhinoplasty cost?

In Orange County, nose surgery typically starts at around $10,500, excluding anesthesia and facility fees. We will provide you with a detailed and personalized quote for services after your in-depth consultation. Note that we offer up to 24-month financing with rapid approvals, which can help you to make your vision of a more balanced, beautiful nose a reality today rather than tomorrow.

Can I wear glasses after rhinoplasty?

It is advisable to avoid wearing glasses for 1-2 months after nose surgery. If necessary, you can use contact lenses for the length of your healing process.

Are there alternatives to rhinoplasty?

A non-surgical nose job can be performed using dermal fillers and injectables. This approach comes with some drawbacks, as the changes are only temporary and the treatment cannot correct more pronounced nasal issues. It can, however, improve nasal symmetry, camouflage bumps and depressions, and reshape the nasal tip. A liquid rhinoplasty can sometimes be beneficial for patients who wish to “try on” their nose surgery results before committing to a more costly and invasive procedure.

Will insurance cover rhinoplasty?

Cosmetic rhinoplasty is not covered by insurance. However, insurance companies may cover part or all of the fees if the surgery is deemed medically necessary. Functional techniques such as septoplasty, turbinate reduction, or nasal valve repair can sometimes fall into the “medically necessary” category, so it is a good idea to check with your provider.

How long will my rhinoplasty results last?

Rhinoplasty results are considered permanent. The aging process may alter the shape and size of the nose slightly, but overall you will live with your new, more attractive nose for the rest of your life.
