The Cosmelan Peel Experience

The Cosmelan Peel is relatively painless and the results are practically instant. Some mild redness, tightness, soreness or itchiness is fairly common immediately following the procedure, however these symptoms typically subside within a day or two.

This peel is gentle enough for all skin types and anyone with the desire to correct pigmentation issues is a viable candidate.

The Cosmelan Peel solution takes approximately 30 minutes to be applied and the mask is then removed at home roughly six hours later. Within the first couple of days, the facial skin will begin to flake and peel and patients can expect to start seeing some of the desired results almost immediately. After about seven days, the effects of the Cosmelan Peel should be fully realized and the issues with pigmentation will be thoroughly diminished.

A Quick and Effective Treatment

The in-office portion of the two-step process will take anywhere from 15 to 20 minutes, making it easy to complete during a quick lunch break.

The at-home second part of the process involves the daily patient application of all products provided in the kit.

These products you will be sent home with are also highly encouraged to be used daily for the first year to maintain results.

Your Recovery Period

For the first week, redness, tightness, and peeling are common. Thereafter you’ll notice hyperpigmentation and blemishes/acne scarring starting to fade. For the first two weeks, your skin will be hypersensitive, so be sure to:

  • Use all your Cosmelan at-home products daily as directed.
  • Avoid sun exposure.
  • Use a broad-spectrum sunscreen with an SPF of 30 or higher while being outside, even while driving.
  • Avoid wearing makeup or using any skincare products that aren’t recommended by your doctor during the healing process.

Enjoying Your Results

After about two weeks, you’ll see your hyperpigmentation, acne, and acne scarring fade. Your initial results will continue to improve and process over time, with full results noticed by week four or five.

Background media

I went to Cosmeticare for a consult to evaluate the best way to treat sunspots and some stubborn melasma spots I had been dealing with for a long time. Jessica was amazing, she answered all my questions about the Cosmelan peel and other options I could consider. I decided to go ahead with the Cosmelan and I am super happy with my results. Jessica was very transparent about what to expect and the routine I would follow. She was available even during her vacation time to answer questions via email and text I highly recommend Cosmeticare and Jessica, I've kept going back and will continue to use her services for maintaining my results.

Should I stop using other products before my Cosmelan peel for the best results?

We recommend discontinued use of all topical retinoids (i.e., Retin-A), and acid exfoliants (i.e., glycolic acid), for one week before your Cosmelan Peel appointment.

What if I get a Cosmelan Peel, but realize I want more dramatic results than it provided?

Typically around the three-week mark, you’ll return for a follow-up visit. During this time – especially if your results are not quite there yet – your provider may apply a second round of the Cosmelan 1 mask or use it to spot treat certain areas for more dramatic results.

How long will Cosmelan Peel results last?

To preserve the results of your peel, we always suggest our patients continue to apply Cosmelan 2 daily for up to one year to help suppress any additional melanin production.

The most critical to your results and how long you can enjoy them will be limiting or protecting against sun exposure. Make broad-spectrum sunscreen with an SPF of 30 or higher, like Elta MD, part of your daily beauty routine to reduce any new sunspots from developing.

How does Cosmelan Peel treat hyperpigmentation?

This two-step system contains powerful ingredients like azelaic acid, kojic acid, phytic acid, ascorbic acid, arbutin, and titanium dioxide) that penetrate deep into the skin serving to:

  • Treat skin hyperpigmentation you can see now by stimulating cell turnover to help eliminate melanin already accumulated in the visible layers of the skin – i.e., fading existing sun spots, age spots, or melasma (“the mask of pregnancy”).
  • Prevent future skin hyperpigmentation by decreasing the natural production of the tyrosinase enzyme, your melanin levels will become regulated, no longer causing blotchy areas of hyperpigmentation.

Does the Cosmelan Peel hurt?

It’s common to feel some warmth and mild tingling while the peel treatment is applied in-office. For about a week following your treatment, you’ll experience the side effects of redness, tightness, and peeling.
