Post Care after Liposuction and Recovery Tips

If you are thinking about getting Liposuction or just had the procedure done, I have several tips on how to achieve your recovery faster and some things to consider regarding the best time to get Liposuction if you are just in the planning stages.

Timing

Best time to consider having your Liposuction done. You will be wearing compression wear for 2 months after your procedure, this should be one thing to consider when deciding when to have your procedure. If you can I would say after New Years is a great time, weather is cool, holidays are over and being bundled up won’t be uncomfortable. Another good option would be over spring break. Plenty of good weather still and it gives you a few months to fully recover before summer time fun! Ultimately try to plan around weather, time off or if you have a big event happening within several months. Once you have the month set, ladies this is for you, think about the time of the month, plan to have surgery between your monthly flo, honestly it’s just one less thing to have to deal with the first couple weeks.

Faster Recovery: Water!

Lots of water and drink alkaline water for the most hydration. Rest and listen to your body! Don’t overdo it, your mind might be all gung-ho but if you feel the least bit winded or tired stop! TIP: Get liter sized bottles, this way you can easily keep track of how much more you need to drink (2 a day is a great goal)  looking at a gallon of water is visually discouraging.

Exercise

You will not be able to return (or start) an exercise routine for about 2 months. Keeping your heart rate low for the first month is crucial, so very light walking is about the extent you want to push it. You may also find low impact movements in a pool to be very helpful, just know that you will need to wait till any incisions you might have are closed sufficiently. Oh an as for sex post procedure, listen to your body you crazy kids! Diet: Try to avoid dairy as it creates more mucus for your lymphatic system to process. Eat light and avoid alcohol, hydration again is very important in aiding in draining your lymphatic system and especially after a massage.

Lymphatic Massage

Ask your doctor when you can start receiving massages as it will speed up your recovery. After a couple weeks and the primary swelling starts to subside you will find hard lumps in some areas. This is normal and with the aide of massage it will diminish faster. Massage and stretching will help to rid yourself of the access fluids and break up scar tissue while assisting in circulation thus helping in the healing process. Massage can be done manually as well as with ultra sound. You will most likely be cleared to start massage therapy around the 2-3 week mark, you will still be tender and numb but it makes a big difference. Be sure the therapists is familiar with Lymphatic massage as it is different that a standard “massage”.

Medications

Continue any medications the doctor may have prescribed.
