One of the biggest things I had to do before my liposuction procedure was to make plans to help manage my family life while I recovered. In my house, I did almost everything. I cleaned the house, did the laundry, dishes, and drove the kids to all their activities/school. The doctors at CosmetiCare were very honest in telling me that I would need to take it very easy following the surgery and would not be able to do any heavy lifting for at least six weeks following the surgery.

These are some tips to help you with planning for your upcoming liposuction procedure:

Bring Your Husband in for Your Consultation

I brought my husband in with me for my consultation so that he could hear directly from the doctors that I was not to do anything around the house. He was great with volunteering to take on all the household responsibilities along with delegating some of the responsibilities to our teenagers. It was great because after I recovered from my surgery, everyone was helping with the household chores, and I never had to step back into that role.

Ask for Help

I am terrible about asking for help, and I’ve always looked at it as a sign of weakness. After the first couple of days home, and my husband had returned to work – I needed help. The doctors want you moving as much as possible after the surgery, but I couldn’t even get out of the bed alone – let alone walk. I reached out to some of my friends who stopped by my house to help me out of bed and take me for short walks around the house. They were also great with helping to cook meals for the family to take that stress off my husband.

Make Driving Arrangements for Your Kids

The one thing I wish I had done was made arrangements for my kids to be driven to school and their activities. You won’t be able to drive while taking prescription pain medication, and I had to stop using the pain medication earlier than I would have wished because I needed to drive my kids to school. You’ll want to plan for at least one week to use the prescription pain medication, and it will be painful to get in/out of the car, so I would recommend getting driving help for at least two weeks following your surgery.

Liposuction is major surgery, and you’ll want to make sure everything is taken care of before your surgery so that you can rest and focus on healing.
