All About Breast Reduction in Orange County

Woman's Breast with Incision Marks

This popular surgical procedure decreases volume and weight, alleviating the discomfort large breasts can cause. Another goal of this procedure is to balance your body’s profile, which includes the removal of excess breast skin, fat, and tissue.

This helps to make breasts smaller in size, reshaping the breasts, and raising the nipples to a perkier placement. Many women also may choose to add a small implant to achieve more fullness in the upper portion of their chest, to help them reach their aesthetic goals.

The Breast Reduction Experience

Your breast reduction in Newport Beach will be performed under general anesthesia. You’ll be completely asleep, totally comfortable, and will spend some time in our recovery area when the procedure is over. The procedure typically takes between two and three hours to complete, depending on the specifics of your surgical plan.

During your consultation, your surgeon will work with you to develop a customized surgical plan that will be bespoke to you and your personal cosmetic needs. You’ll learn everything you need to know about incision placement, post-surgical scarring, and the general details of your surgical experience.

Once the incision is made, your surgeon will adjust the position of your nipple as desired, remove the necessary excess skin and tissues, and generally create a more lifted and supple look. Then the incisions will be carefully closed and you’ll get the opportunity to rest in our recovery room for a few minutes.

  • Breast reduction will leave permanent scars that will be covered by bras and bathing suits. Products are available that can be placed on the scars to help reduce redness and improve the overall appearance.

What else do I need to know?

  • After surgery, your breasts will be wrapped tightly with an elastic bandage and placed in a bra.
  • Each breast will have a small drain inserted to help eliminate any fluids or residual bleeding that can collect in the breasts over the first few days.
  • You will experience some swelling, bruising, and discomfort that can be lessened with prescription medication.
  • Bandages will be removed after a day or two, but you will be required to continue wearing the surgical bra for a few weeks.
  • The procedure will leave noticeable scars. For most women, these scars should fade with time. The typical breast reduction incision will leave a scar shaped much like an anchor.
  • Most women are able to return to work within two weeks depending on their individual work duties. More strenuous work must be avoided for a longer period of time. Light social activities can also be resumed within this time period.
  • More strenuous activities and lifting can begin after 4-6 weeks. Your surgeon will be able to give you instructions on resuming normal activities.
  • Any physical contact with the breasts should be avoided for 6 weeks.
