I experienced my first facial peel at Cosmeticare recently. A chemical peel is supposed to improve the appearance of skin, smoothing out the appearance of dine lines, wrinkles and roughness. Another procedure that can help improve one’s skin would be a laser treatment but because of my dark complexion, this is not an option. So I was game to try a Skin Medica Vitalize Peel®, which is appropriate for all skin types.   My aesthetician Lisa was familiar with my skin issues, since she is the one that gives me my regular facials. She talked me through every step of the Vitalize Peel. I’ll admit, it stung a little but it was bearable. The actual application procedure took only about 20 minutes. A handheld fan helped minimize my discomfort. I went home that night with slightly tingling skin and detailed instructions from Lisa about what to expect in the next few days, and how to care for my skin. What a peel does is accelerate skin exfoliation so I was prepared to experience some skin shedding.   It wasn’t until the third day that my skin started peeling – like a bad sunburn – all over my face. Flakes of skin were falling on my clothing. My family said I looked like a molting snake!     Finally, after about a week, my skin appeared healthier and smoother. My uneven skin tone and pigmentation evened out. Over all, my skin looked renewed! It made me wonder why I hadn’t done a chemical peel sooner!     Currently, my post-peel regimen consists of SkinMedica® Facial Cleanser, TNS Ceramide Treatment Cream™ moisturizer and a Daily Physical Defense® Sunscreen Broad Spectrum SPF 30+. This regimen has helped preserve the effects of my chemical peel until my next one, that is.
