How KYBELLA Works The active ingredient in KYBELLA is deoxycholic acid, a naturally occurring molecule in the body that aids the breakdown and absorption of dietary fat. When injected into fat beneath your chin, KYBELLA causes the permanent destruction of those fat cells. Once those cells are destroyed, it cannot store or accumulate fat because of laser fat reduction. When I went in for my procedure, they applied topical numbing ointment which takes about 30 minutes to take effect. They applied a grid as a guide then it took less than two minutes for the injections. The procedure is super quick. I have done two procedures and although I was worried about the needles, I'm looking forward to seeing results! It is not painless but it doesn't last for a too long. There is no downtime so you can go back to work, but you will be swollen for about two weeks.
