A HydraFacial is a noninvasive, device-based facial that cleanses and exfoliates skin, uses suction to extract pore debris, and applies hydrating serums. At CosmetiCare, a HydraFacial Platinum treatment is customized to your skin concerns and aims to leave your complexion looking smoother and more refreshed.
What is a HydraFacial?
A gentle chemical peel is part of the visit, and the wand works like a miniature vacuum during extraction.
What comes out during a HydraFacial?
The cleansing tip lifts makeup residue, dirt, and dead skin cells from the surface. Suction-assisted extraction can remove pore debris and blackheads. The material collected during treatment is not evidence that the facial has removed toxins from your body.
How does CosmetiCare perform a HydraFacial Platinum treatment?
Our HydraFacial Platinum visit takes one hour and includes cleansing and exfoliation, a gentle peel, extraction and hydration, and a customized booster. We also include dermaplaning alongside these four main stages.

What are the four steps of HydraFacial Platinum at CosmetiCare?
- Cleanse and exfoliate: Our aesthetician uses a small Vortex tip to remove surface debris and dead skin cells while gently exfoliating.
- Apply a gentle peel: An exfoliating solution helps loosen material in the pores.
- Extract and hydrate: Vacuum-like suction removes loosened debris and blackheads, followed by a targeted hydrating serum.
- Customize the finish: The aesthetician selects a booster based on the skin concerns identified for the visit.
How are the serums and boosters customized?
The serum phase can include hydrating ingredients, antioxidants, peptides, and collagen. Our listed booster options are Glysal Peel, Dermabuilder, CTGF, and Britenol. Booster selection depends on your skin assessment; no particular booster guarantees a specific change in pores, tone, or fine lines.
Who may benefit from a HydraFacial?
A HydraFacial may suit someone who wants skin to look cleaner, smoother, and more hydrated. CosmetiCare tailors treatment across skin types rather than using the same combination for everyone. Oily or clogged skin may benefit from cleansing and extraction, while dry, rough, or dull-looking skin may benefit from exfoliation and hydration.
Can a HydraFacial help oily skin and clogged pores?
Extraction can remove some blackheads and pore debris, so clogged or large pores may look less noticeable afterward. That is a cosmetic change, not a permanent change to pore size or oil production. For more on the treatment’s pore-cleansing role, see our guide to HydraFacial for clearer pores and hydrated skin.
A 12-week, open-label study of HydraFacial Clarifying Treatment enrolled 20 adults with mild-to-moderate acne who received six treatments, one every two weeks. Investigator-rated clear or almost clear skin rose from 20% at baseline to 65% at the final treatment. Because the study had no comparison group and its protocol included blue LED light, it does not show that one of our Platinum visits will clear acne.
Can a HydraFacial suit dry, rough, or dull skin?
Exfoliation removes surface dead skin cells, and the serum phase adds hydration, which may make dry or rough skin look smoother and dull skin look more refreshed. Uneven tone and fine lines are also reasonable concerns to raise during a skin assessment, but a facial should not be expected to erase wrinkles or scars.
What does a HydraFacial feel like, and is there downtime?
A HydraFacial is generally comfortable, though suction and serum application can produce slight pressure or tingling. CosmetiCare’s HydraFacial Platinum visit does not require an extended recovery period for most patients. Skin sensitivity varies, however, so a comfortable appointment and an immediate return to routine activities should not be mistaken for a guarantee of no reaction.
Does a HydraFacial hurt?
We do not expect HydraFacial Platinum to be painful. The Vortex tip may feel like gentle movement across the skin, while extraction can feel like suction. Tell the aesthetician if a peel, booster, or treatment area feels uncomfortable so the visit can be adjusted.
What should you do after a HydraFacial?
Follow the skin-care instructions we give you for the peel, booster, and serums used. A mild pink flush after a facial often fades during the day; contact our office if your skin becomes increasingly uncomfortable or you develop a persistent reaction.
What are the downsides of a HydraFacial?
HydraFacial can cause temporary redness, irritation, or sensitivity, particularly in response to exfoliation or a topical product. A noninvasive facial is not risk-free.
Who should postpone or avoid a HydraFacial?
Postpone treatment over an active skin infection or open, significantly irritated skin. Discuss other skin conditions, medications, ingredient sensitivities, and pregnancy with your own clinician to decide whether to proceed, modify the treatment, or postpone it.
Can a HydraFacial irritate sensitive skin?
Yes. Exfoliation, suction, and topical ingredients can leave sensitive skin temporarily red or uncomfortable even when the treatment is otherwise gentle. In clinical practice, checking skin condition and product tolerance before choosing a peel or booster helps make the appointment more appropriate for the individual.
How long do HydraFacial results last?
Our HydraFacial Platinum treatment may leave skin looking hydrated and smoother for up to seven days after your first visit. Results vary, and a facial does not permanently resolve acne, scarring, or fine lines.
When might skin look more refreshed?
You may notice a smoother appearance right after treatment as skin is exfoliated and hydrated. A study of hydradermabrasion in eight volunteers observed microscopic skin changes after treatment but found no visible difference in dermal collagen fibers at its two-week follow-up. It did not establish lasting wrinkle correction.
How often does CosmetiCare recommend treatment?
We recommend one HydraFacial Platinum treatment once a month to maintain a smoother, clearer appearance. The schedule can be adjusted to your skin’s response and goals; more frequent treatment should not be assumed to produce better results.
How does a HydraFacial compare with a chemical peel?
HydraFacial Platinum includes a gentle peel within a broader visit that also cleanses, extracts, and hydrates. A separate chemical peel is a different treatment choice, often considered when targeted exfoliation or resurfacing is the main goal. Neither option is universally better, and the most suitable choice depends on the concern and skin tolerance.

The Cleveland Clinic’s skin-care service descriptions list HydraFacial and stand-alone chemical peels separately. This table compares the considerations for each choice.
| Treatment | What it includes | What to weigh |
|---|---|---|
| HydraFacial Platinum | Cleansing, a gentle peel, suction-assisted extraction, hydrating serum, and a customized booster | Pore cleansing and a short-term refreshed appearance, without extended downtime |
| Stand-alone chemical peel | An exfoliating solution as the main treatment; our options include VI Peel and DSE Peel | A plan centered on exfoliation or resurfacing; recovery depends on the peel selected |
When might a VI Peel or DSE Peel be a better fit?
CosmetiCare offers VI Peel and DSE Peel as separate options to discuss when concerns such as uneven tone or surface texture call for a different approach. Peel selection and expected recovery depend on the individual treatment plan; the gentle peel within HydraFacial Platinum should not be assumed to work like a stand-alone peel. Our guide to chemical peels for acne and acne scars explains why treatment choice matters for those concerns.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can you break out after a HydraFacial?
Yes. Cleveland Clinic notes that temporary breakouts can follow a first facial or new products and may subside within a week or two. Contact our office if a breakout worsens or does not settle.
Should I get my first HydraFacial right before a wedding or other event?
No. Leave time before your first facial rather than booking it immediately before a wedding or other important event: a temporary flush or breakout can occur even with a low-disruption visit.
Is a HydraFacial the same as DiamondGlow?
No. Both treatments exfoliate, extract pore debris, and apply serums, but they use different treatment wands. Cleveland Clinic describes HydraFacial’s spiral-tip wand and DiamondGlow’s diamond-tipped wand.
Will a HydraFacial remove facial hair?
The HydraFacial wand does not remove facial hair, but our Platinum visit also includes dermaplaning. Cleveland Clinic notes that a similar technique, dermablading, can remove superficial facial hair.
Does a HydraFacial use hyaluronic acid?
It can. Hyaluronic acid is one ingredient that may be infused during a HydraFacial. We customize our serums and boosters and do not specify hyaluronic acid for every visit.
Can a HydraFacial be combined with a VI Peel or DSE Peel?
Yes. We offer VI Peel and DSE Peel as separate treatments that may be combined with HydraFacial Platinum in a personalized plan. That does not mean both procedures belong in the same appointment: because HydraFacial Platinum already includes a gentle peel, additional exfoliation should be timed with your skin’s tolerance in mind.
How can Laguna Beach patients decide whether to book a HydraFacial?
Laguna Beach patients may find HydraFacial Platinum a good fit when they want a short-term refreshed appearance from a low-disruption visit. Weigh that goal against skin sensitivity, the treatment’s temporary results, and whether a separate peel better matches your concerns.
If you are coming from Laguna Beach, contact CosmetiCare to arrange a consultation with our aesthetics team at our Newport Beach, California, office. We can review your skin goals, explain what your HydraFacial Platinum visit would include, and help you choose an appropriate treatment plan.
