Why Consider Breast Revision?

All About Breast Revision

Types of Breast Revision Procedures

  • Implant Exchange: Swapping old implants for a different size, shape (round vs. anatomical), or material (silicone vs. saline).
  • Capsulectomy: Removing the hardened scar tissue (capsule) that can form around an implant, causing pain or distortion.
  • Implant Removal (Explant): Removing the implants entirely, often combined with a breast lift (mastopexy) to remove excess skin.
  • Pocket Repair: Correcting implant malposition (bottoming out or “uni-boob” symmastia) by reinforcing the internal breast pocket.
  • Fat Transfer: Using your own fat to add volume or smooth out implant rippling.

Who is a Good Candidate?

  • You are unhappy with the size, shape, or symmetry of your current implants.
  • You are experiencing medical complications like capsular contracture or silicone leakage.
  • Your implants have “settled” poorly or moved from their original position.
  • You are in good overall health and have realistic expectations.
  • You are a non-smoker (or willing to quit) to ensure optimal healing.

The Recovery Process

  • Week 1: Most patients take 5–7 days off work. Expect some tightness, bruising, and swelling.
  • Weeks 2-4: You can typically resume light daily activities and walking. Residual swelling will begin to subside.
  • Weeks 6+: Most physical restrictions are lifted, including exercise, though high-impact activities should be cleared by your surgeon.
