Three Steps to Natural Cheek Volume
Buccal fat restoration is a surgical procedure performed under general anesthesia. Depending on your goals, your surgeon may also discuss dermal fillers such as Juvéderm® or Sculptra as a non-surgical way to add mid-face volume.
Step One
Liposuction is used to harvest a small amount of unwanted fat from the patient’s thighs, abdomen or lower back area.
Step Two
The surgeon sterilizes the fat cells, purifying and preparing them for injection.
Step Three
The fat is carefully layered into the cheeks and mid-face in small amounts, building volume gradually until the ideal contour is achieved.

How Will I Look & Feel After Buccal Fat Restoration?
- Because fat has a certain rate of absorption once injected, your surgeon will slightly over-fill the area to allow for this absorption over the following weeks.
- Your cheeks will look noticeably full and puffy at first, and you can expect bruising, swelling, or redness at both the donor site and the treated areas.
- Most patients feel well enough to resume normal activities right away, though you will be quite swollen. Those who prefer not to advertise their procedure may want to wait several days before going out in public.
- If a larger donor area was treated, your surgeon may ask you to limit strenuous activity for a short time.
- It is recommended that you avoid sun exposure until redness and bruising subside, usually after 48 hours.
