Should I Consider Gynecomastia Treatment?

You’re a great candidate for gynecomastia treatment in Orange County at CosmetiCare if you’re looking for an effective way to alleviate the physical and emotional discomfort caused by overly large breasts. We recommend that you consider this treatment after having finished puberty, as your hormones are constantly fluctuating during adolescence. It’s also important to remain at a consistent weight, since gaining or losing significant weight can affect your surgical results.

If you have one or more of the following issues as a result of your breast size, male breast reduction surgery may be right for you:

  • Swollen and enlarged breasts
  • Sagging breasts
  • Stretched areolas
  • Tender chest area
  • Fibrous and moveable tissue below the nipple
  • Asymmetrical breasts

Our Surgical Techniques for Gynecomastia Treatment

Here at CosmetiCare in Orange County, our surgeons come with extensive experience and an impressively high level of training. Our team can use any number of techniques to create your incredible results, and your treatment plan will be directly tailored to the specific nature of your physical characteristics and your personal goals.

Liposuction

If your condition is mainly the result of excess fatty tissue, liposuction will be utilized to remove the excess fat. A small incision, less than half an inch in size, is made around the edge of the areola. A slender, hollow, tube-like instrument called a cannula will then be attached to a vacuum pump and inserted into the incision. The cannula is then guided by your surgeon to break up layers of fat beneath the skin and suction it out of the breast.

Excision

If excess glandular tissue is the main cause of enlarged breasts, your surgeon will choose to excise or cut out this tissue using a scalpel. The excision will be made in a well-concealed area on the edge of the areola or under the arm to minimize the presence of scarring. Working through this incision, your surgeon will excise the glandular tissue. Excision may be performed alone or in conjunction with liposuction.

Customizing Your Procedure

For men who have an extremely large amount of fat or glandular tissue in the breasts, it may be necessary to also excise skin. Skin may not contour well to the breast area once fat or glandular tissue is removed, leaving the patient with saggy breast skin. Regardless of your specifics, you can count on a bespoke treatment plan that will be developed according to your personal goals and physical characteristics. Your surgeon will also walk you through everything you need to know about your procedure well in advance of its date, so you can experience total peace of mind as you get ready to enjoy your life-affirming cosmetic results.

The Gynecomastia Treatment Recovery Process

  • Following your gynecomastia treatment in Newport Beach you can expect swelling, bruising, and some discomfort for a few days.
  • Much of this discomfort can be controlled with medication prescribed by your surgeon.
  • To reduce swelling, you will wear a compression garment for the first couple of weeks or longer.
  • Most of the swelling bruising and discomfort will decrease within a few weeks.
  • The final results of your surgery may not truly be noticeable for up to two to three months or more.
  • A scar will be noticeable in the areola or through the armpit but the scar appearance may improve with time.
  • You can return to work after a day or two or when you feel well enough to do so.
  • Heavy activities like working out should be avoided for about four weeks
  • Sun exposure should be avoided for about six months to help eliminate the darkening of your scars.
