Am I a Candidate?

Looking fantastic is on the mind of nearly every woman in Orange County. Breast augmentation is one of the most popular ways to improve your appearance. Candidates for augmentation surgery may consider the procedure for many reasons: loss of breast size following pregnancy or weight loss, wanting a more proportionate figure, adjusting asymmetrical breasts, or just wanting larger breasts. The ideal candidate will have realistic expectations about the procedure and results.

Can I Combine Procedures?

Absolutely. In many cases, a breast augmentation may be combined with a breast lift during the same visit to enhance the results and provide improved size and shape of the breasts. Other women may consider liposuction or a tummy tuck to accentuate their breast enlargement results. Combining procedures is much easier on the body than two separate surgeries, since you have only a single recovery time.

What Size Should I Choose?

While most women think about cup sizes when talking about implants used in breast augmentation, Orange County plastic surgeons discuss them in terms of volume, or CCs. During your consultation, CosmetiCare’s surgeons will work closely with you to make sure that the implant size which is chosen will give you the profile you desire.

Saline or Silicone Gel?

This is a very personal choice that each woman will need to make for herself. Some women are most comfortable with saline breast implants, while many others like the more natural look and feel that is possible with silicone gel implants. The implant type used depends on the desired look and feel for your end results, and your body type and lifestyle as well. Your surgeon will talk with you in depth about your choice.

What about Placement?

There are several factors involved in deciding the placement method for the implants: lifestyle, activity level, and what will give the best results for the individual. Breast implants can be placed either under the chest muscle or directly behind the breast tissue.

How Long Is the Surgery?

Breast augmentation generally takes about an hour, excluding prep time or recovery time. During the procedure, the initial incision will be made and the implants will be placed through the incision. The incision site then will be stitched up and dressings applied, at which time you’ll be relocated out to the post-op recovery room until the anesthesia has worn off and you’re able to go home.

How Long Is Recovery?

Everyone’s body reacts to surgery a little bit differently, so it’s hard to say. Most women describe their post-surgical experience as uncomfortable rather than painful for a day or two. You should feel back to your normal self within a few days, although it will take longer for the final shape of the breasts to be revealed, as swelling subsides and the implants settle in place.

What about Scarring?

The surgeons at CosmetiCare make every effort to ensure that your new breasts will look as aesthetically pleasing as possible. To this end, incisions are usually located within the breast fold, where it will be hidden by the breast itself, or around the areola, where it will disappear against the darker skin pigment.
