After having liposuction, my compression garment quickly became my new best friend for the next six weeks. When I woke up from my surgery, I was already in the compression garment that CosmetiCare provided. Under my compression garment, was a thick layer of cotton and foam to help keep my skin compressed. When I returned to CosmetiCare the day after my surgery, they took off my compression garment, foam and cotton to check on my incisions. During my appointment, they advised me of the importance of wearing my compression garment 24/7 until the doctor informed me that I could stop. The most important thing you need to know about your compression garment is that you’ll need help getting in/out of it when showering. During the first week after my surgery, I needed both my husband and daughter to help with holding the cotton and foam while I buttoned/zipped up the garment. Once I felt comfortable removing the cotton and foam, it quickly became easier to get in and out of the garment.

The biggest reason that you’ll find yourself wanting to stay in the compression garment for an extended period of time is for the comfort. When I took the garment off, I could feel my skin moving and shifting, which was such a weird feeling. The garment helped to keep everything tight and comfortable during my recovery process.I found myself losing a lot of weight after my surgery, and as the swelling started to go down, my compression garment was not providing the same amount of pressure that I needed to feel comfortable. With the approval of my doctor at CosmetiCare, I ended up purchasing a full body suit by Spanx. I started with a large Spanx bodysuit and then moved into a medium…then small as I continued to lose weight.

It was a good 8-10 weeks before I felt comfortable without a compression garment or spanx. Compression garments are an essential part of the liposuction process, and it’s important to stay in your garment to ensure optimal results from your liposuction at CosmetiCare. If you’re thinking of having Liposuction done, make an appointment by calling (949) 238-6133.
